I have a CMP loader and am wondering if I can use a Star Powder slide with this machine?

Greetings,

I measured my CPM powder bar and it is 3/4" wide by 1/2" deep. The Star bars are 5/8" wide.

You would be best advised to continue to use the interchangeable bushings in the original CPM machine.

They are easily made from 1/2" diameter brass bar stock.

Or, have Bruce Williams of Star Machine Works fabricate them for you.

Originally, I believe CPM used the Pacific, now Hornady, pistol measure bushings. They work fine; but, moving from one bushing to the next is a large weight change.

Cheers,

Dave

Thank you for the reply. My machine came missing the powder slide assembly, just the bronze housing and powder drop tube. I made a slide from a nylon cutting board and drilled a hole to drop one type of powder at a known weight.
I would like to have a slide that could take the bushings being offered.
I was hoping that the Star slide would fit.

Contact Bruce at Star Machine Works. Bruce can probably make the slide and bushings.  An added bonus is that Bruce is an all around great guy and a good BE shooter.

Greetings Rob,

Does your machine have the base and top plate with thumb screws?

Just missing the powder bar?

I can make a drawing for you to have it machined locally.

Perhaps a small photo of your powder dispensing mechanism.

Cheers,

Dave

If Dave can provide a drawing and perhaps a picture of an original CPM powder slide, I'm sure I could help you out.

I'm not a machinist nor do I play one on TV,but I try to makes things the hard way. I made the slide out of a Harbor Freight cutting board. The nylon is self lubricating and moves with little effort. I had to "guess" on the movement of the slide to locate the center of the powder drop hole. I was close to being centered, but no cigar. I added a spring loaded screw to always allow the slide to stay riding tightly on the slide cam bar. As I stated,it works very well but is set for  H110 for .357 Magnum.
Here is the powder slide unit

Here is the length if the bronze slide unit

Here is the width of the slide unit channel,it is in fact .75" (3/4")

Here is the length of the slide I MADE. I do not know if this is factory correct, it is what I came up with that works.

Here is the center of the drop hole,it is close but it is not centered perfectly as tghe factory one would be.

Here is the thickness of the slide bar, it is close to being right but is a few thousands "thin" allowing powder grains to collect on the top of the slide bar.

Here is the cam slot. I had to guess to make this work. No idea if I'm even close to factory specs.

Here is the width of the cam at full rest (up)

Here is the thickness of the cam arm

I hope these images help. I can take more if needed and a proper description of the measurements needed  are given.
Thanks again for your help.

Greetings,

I will create an engineering drawing and forward it to Bruce Williams.

Give me a day or two.

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks Fred,   Dave is doing the drawing and that will have all of the necessary measurements, but I appreciate the picture, it always helps to have a frame of reference.

Is the adjustable slide original CPM?

Greetings,

Reverse Engineered sketch of my CPM Powder Bar.

Cheers,

Dave

PS:    Got to wondering as to which way the radius part faces. Up or down? The shaker rollers are offset to one side, so there must be a correct way.

Thanks Dave,

The few pictures I have seen show the radius on the bottom, but I don't know if that is correct.

Bruce,
Sorry I don't know if the adjustable bar is original CPM, it's old.
It's 3/4"x3/4" brass, longer, without radius, takes a spring, and the hole center 'drop zone' is a little different.
The rollers on the 3 bars as pictured line up closest above grade with the radius up.
