38 special dies , Can they be used for 357?
« on: March 25, 2012, 08:00:59 pm »
I am new to the use of Star reloaders.,I havve reloaded for years and just got an old star thinking that I could load 357 on it.

I am in the process of cleaning up the loader right now and wanted to be shure that I can use 38 Spec  dies for  loading 357.
I do not want to screw up anything as the parts for this thing are ........ well you know better than I.

Thanks in advance,
Schroeder

Greetings:
No problem. Just adjust the dies to flare, seat and crimp on the longer case.  Back in the day,  I reloaded a lot of both for the Sherrif's Posse.

Parts are far more available than you might imagine.   If you need something, just ask.  There is a good chance that someone here has it or knows where you can get it.

As for .357, just watch that when you raise the expander that it doesn't interfere with the powder slide.  Star made a shorter expander marked with an M for use loading .357, but you can still use the standard one.
