How can I tell if the dies that came with my Star Universal are carbide or steel?

Only the sizing/decapping die would be carbide.  If it says Lifetime or RLS Precision on the die it has a carbide sizing ring insert.  If it is not one of those makes, it probably is not carbide, but it might be.  You just have to look for the carbide ring insert, which should be visible.
