What size die is This ?
« on: June 02, 2012, 10:34:39 pm »
I have a no name sizing die that I can't identify, it is a stepped die, it has a carbide insert with an opening at the mouth of .376" and the tapered step begins
at .680" from the mouth and extends another .140" while tapering down to .3695" Anyone have any thoughts as to what cartridge this is for ??

Good Shooting

Greetings,

Sounds like a custom made 38 Special 2 Stage die.

Lifetyme offered them for the Star in both 38 Special and 45 ACP.

Redding currently offers a similar die with 7/8-14 threads.

Would be nice to see a photo of the die.

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks Dave
You are probably right.  When I first looked at this thing closely, I thought it was a Crimp die, but then why would it have a carbide insert instead of the
larger opening of the crimp die. now I'm wondering if during manufacture someone made a mistake.
I would like to post pic's but My digital camera wont take closeups. Anyway, Thanks for Your thoughts on this.

Good shooting
