Star Reloaders / Opinions please on pricing
« Last post by don on August 10, 2025, 03:34:53 pm »
When I do sell my machines in the fall sometime soon, I'm trying to decide if I'll be putting the right price on them.  For example, do you think for a universal loader for a single cal, the price of $600 is right or should I go higher or lower? I'm not greedy I would just like to get a decent price to give others the chance to get them and me to finally get them sold.  I am thinking of selling the 38-357 dual head and the 40sw 10mm for $900.
Please give your opinions on this.
Thank You

Stars Want to Sell/Want to Buy / WTB Adjustable powder bar

Howdy, new to my Star reloader. Mine is in 45 ACP. I’m interested in an adjustable powder bar. I see some on eBay but they are wrong size. Mine measures .618 width. If someone could kindly point me in the right direction. Thank you.

Old topic but this is what I was looking for. Do you still sell these?

Star Reloaders / New member aging out
« Last post by don on August 06, 2025, 09:43:34 pm »
Hello, my name is Don and I'm from La Crosse Wi and I have been casting and reloading since 1967.
I am aging out, so it is time for me to let someone else to take over the use of my machines.  I have 6 machines, all universal, starting with 380, 9mm ,38special with 357 toolhead, 40sw with 10mm toolhead, 45asp and 44mag.
I acquired my first machine in 1995 for $200 and all the rest at a much-increased cost. So, all these years to keep these machines fed I have been using a Master caster and 60+ molds, not all pistol.
this is to let you know that since I am aging out, this fall I will be putting all my machines up for sale.  I will be letting the casting equipment go first.  When I do put them up for sale the cost is going to be at a very reasonable price to give someone a good start.

Star Reloaders / Re: Universal 38 dies be adjusted to 357 shells

As Dave said, the 38 Special expander needs to be shortened so it won't interfere with the powder slide when you raise it up enough to load .357 Magnum.   If you don't want to do that, I have Magnum length expanders, which counter intuitively are shorter than the standard 38 Special expanders.

Most 357 Magnum charges require a 1/2" powder slide.   I have those in stock.   You will need either a 1/2" powder slide housing to accommodate the 1/2" powder slide or a set of spacers to convert a 00 powder slide housing so it can handle the 1/2" powder slide.   I have both in stock.

Greetings,

The 38 Special expander plug will need to be modified.

It will interfere with the powder charge bar if you back it off to use on 357 Magnum.

Rather than modifying it, buy a new one from Star Machine Works.

Cheers,

Dave

Forgot to add that RCBS and I think Lee, makes a set of spacers to spec.

You absolutely can use the same dies. Just need to adjust for the longer case length.

If you plan to continue loading both calibers, and are using the same bullet, you might want to consider using a 1/8 washer under the die when doing 357, and remove it for .38. The washer raises the die height for the difference in case length.

Can a universal reloader with 38 dies be adjusted to reload 357 or do I need 357 dies

Reloader sold for $700.  Thanks for the information.  Would have loved to keep, but glad I could sell to someone who would get use out of this fascinating tool.
