Star Reloaders / Re: Star small parts bag.
« on: January 11, 2015, 09:33:09 pm »
Nice find! I've recieved Parts from them in bags like that Years ago, sometimes in the late 50s I believe. Wish I had kept them.
It has a zip code in the address and I don't think zip codes came along until the Year 1963.
Enjoy

Star Reloaders / Re: RCBS Star Dies
« on: December 16, 2014, 12:20:56 am »
I have never heard of RCBS dies that were manufatured to fit the Star, But I have turned down and treaded  .40 S&W RCBS dies to fit the Star.
This wasn't hard to do, But there was not much metal left on the portion of the die that has to fit into the shell plate. They did work/function well.

I home made a motorized collator to fill the tube. All I have to do is dump 500  or so empty cases into the collator and then turn on the switch.
The collator keeps the tube full and then shuts it's self off until more cases are needed. and I've never had an upsidedown case.
I tried to post a pic. of the collator but keep getting a message saying that the file is to large.

Go to this website and down load the Star operator manual.
http://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/FIREARMS/
It is a long list, but is in alphbetical order. scan down the list to "Star_progressive_reloader" then
click on "PDF". You can print out the manual or just read the instructions to help You with the
proper sequence to avoid powder spills.

I'v been told that all the machinery in the Star Bulding were ran by overhead belts and pully's and that the machinests were mostly of German decent and that each machinest made only one or two of the star parts and that was how they maintained the quality and precision of the parts. also I have heard that the Building was a Qaonset Hut type and others have said it was large metal building.  All hearsay on my part of course.

You mentioned "John T Amber" in Your post  and the name sounded familier but couldn't place where I had heard it. and then
I picked up the book I have been reading and there it was !  Gun Digest 1973 27th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. On page 264
Amber had written an articule named "Handloading Centennial"
I also noticed that he is the Editor of the book.
