Star Reloaders / Re: Star Straight Line? Caliber 30/06 with wilson dies

Mine was in 32 S&W long.  All complete.  A gift from Ellord.
Last time I knew it was at Ron Peterson Guns in Albuquerque New Mexico.
If it is still there and if you want to buy it you should call and talk to Ron.

The Phelps reloaders are for the most part pretty good copies of Stars, but unlike Stars which changed very little over their production history, it's hard to find two Phelps that are exactly alike.    Most of the early Phelps that were actually produced by John Phelps are pretty good.  Not as exact or consistent as a Star, but still a decent reloader.   After Phelps suffered bankruptcy and stopped producing reloaders, the assets were bought by Dan Fausto.   Fausto continued to put together machines from parts, and may have had some additional parts made, but in my opinion, the overall quality went down hill.   I have seen some really bad Phelps reloaders.....but also some nice ones.

So echoing Dave's comments, many parts are interchangeable, but not all, and the interchangeability might depend on the particular Phelps reloader you have.

Bruce

So there were only two owners?  Interesting.  I knew Dan Fausto.  Never thought he was very serious about the business.  Sort of a hobby.  Any idea what time frames the two owners operated in?

I'm not sure how rare those are.  I bought one decades ago and they were for sale for some considerable period.  I haven't seen one in decades and they were a nice accessory but I never thought of them as rare.

Star History / Calibers

I thought that there was a list here somewhere of all the calibers Star made presses in but I can not find it.  Anyone know where it is?

I believe I read somewhere here... Star made  the progressive in 32S&W Long. I assume they are rare.
Steve

I had one.  Just placed an order and it showed up back in 1991 according to the invoice.  Also had a 32 ACP and 475 Wildey tool head bought about the same time.

I know that Star sold some with their name on them but those were probably made by Hensley.

But I seem to remember Elord telling me that they made one themselves.  Meant to be mounted to a work bench and filled with a dipper I had something like 100 cavities.  Anyone know anything about this?

Stars Want to Sell/Want to Buy / Re: (WTB) STAR STRAIGHTLINE PARTS

As far as I know my star straightline is still at Ron Peterson Guns in Albuquerque.  If you want to check into that you need to talk to Ron, not a store clerk.  And it might help if you tell him that Ken Walters suggested you call.  It might also be a good idea to mail him a picture of what you are looking for because I'd bet he would not remember which press you were talking about as I sold him dozens of old machines.

I had one in 32 S&W Long.

From what I remember, Ellord said that only between three and 20 were ever made.  Yours is the 3rd I've heard of.  Where and when did you get it?  Pictures would be nice?  I'm almost positive that none were made in rifle calibers.

Have any of you ever tried to reload 7.92x33 (8mm Kurz)? The parent case for this is 30-06.

I thought that the parent case was the 8mm Mauser?

Star History / Re: Star-Hensley and Gibbs

Unfortunately I lost Wayne Gibbs' e-mail address when my machine crashed a while back.  But I talked to him about this once years ago.  My memory of that is foggy but I think that Star may have actually made moulds once.  I know that they made a REALLY big bench mounted mould once and I think that maybe they made moulds too.

I certainly had several tools with that.  Can not remember if they all had them but certainly several did.
