I prep case for both the 30 carbine and the .223 just for the need to trim after sizing. I trim the 30 carbine to 1.280 as apposed to the 1.285 and then have to trim less often. No headspace problem. I am interested to see how other reloaders do without the trimming operation as most of their 30 carbine and .223 cases will bo over max length! I reload a lot of military .223 and also swage after size and deprime step.

I don't recall any locator straps. I don't have any extra. Mine do seem to work fine also. The sizing die is full length. Some time early on I started to prep my cases, full length sizing and pp swaging and trimming, prior to feeding them to the press w/o a sizing die installed. Been doing it that way for ever. I do try to segregate my twice fired cases from the once fired military so as not to have to swage those not needing it. I don't see how anyone very picky could fl size without at least checking the length. Tom
ps: I do have 1 extra locator strap with a square nose rather than rounded?

I talked to someone at the Lee factory about a carbide .380ACP die set and was told all they had left, at least in that caliber, was a carbide sizing die in 11/16x24. The die doesn't have a decapping rod but I ordered it anyway hoping I could improvise the decapping operation. Tom

I tried the 9mm dies for the .380. If the brass were to be fired in the same gun, the sizer will work. If I want a "to spec" cartridge I will need a .380 sizer. I will attempt to turn down my Lee carbide sizer and thread it for the 11/16x24 holes in the head. The 9mm expander seems ok, not too long. I plan to use a Lee carbide taper crimp die which also must be turn down and rethreaded. I believe the seater will work, but need to actually try it. Tom (ps wish me luck with my rethreading!) No need to modify the die as Lee had a .380 ACP 11/16x24 die that works perfectly! So to summarize, I reload .380ACP with a .380ACP carbide sizer, a 9mm expander and bullet seater with a .223 shell plate. I have made a top plate for the Hulme 9mm shell feeder to .380ACP using suggestions from the forum. I rethreaded a Lee carbide crimper/sizer die and am about to try it out. Tom

The powder slides clearance over the nut on the expander was taken care of by the use of the Super Stars powder slide housing where the thickness of the bottom is about .325". The nut is about .2" so there is clearance. The total length of the expander is about 1" with the top slightly less than flush with the top of the nut. I just noticed that even the standard powder slide housings allow clearance. Tom

Much to my surprise, the hole spacing is identical on the regular and the .223 linkages. I have shown the .223 link on top of and beside of a standard link. The .223 links are contoured to allow clearance from the top as the head is raised thus allowing a slightly longer travel. One could even use the standard links ground to allow the same clearance at the sacrifice of some strength. Tom

The drop tube assembly seems to be comprised of 2 parts. The larger outer tube appears to be swaged to the smaller tube assembly which is funnel shaped into the housing with a larger diameter section set screwed to the housing and turned down to the fit inside of a 223 brass. Tom

I am experimenting with the 9mm top plare and will flatten the top of the ram to see if I can make them work with the .380 cases.. It would help if you could send a photo of the 9mm and .380 top plates so that I could see the differences.
