And I thought that the case head dimensions for the .30-06 and the 8mm Mauser were the same.  All I am not sure of is the diameter across the extractor groove.

Stars Want to Sell/Want to Buy / Small Primer Slide Needed

The topic says it all.  I finally got everything together to set up my Star equipped with the small primer slide to load .40 S&W, but when I tried to run it today, had problems with the primer slide not lining up properly with the case.  On disassembly, the problem appears to be that the hole in the slide has become egg shaped over the years, causing improper alignment and a resulting jam with the primer partly in the shell and part remaining in the slide.  this problem requires fairly major disassembly to resolve, and I would like to acquire a new slide if possible.  Please send me a message if you have one for sale.  Thanks.

With regard to identifying one of these machines - I have a loader that appears in all respects to be a Star Universal, except there is no stamping on the top of the tool head.  The tool head has the boss on the underside, which the Phelps head clearly lacks.  It also had the 3/8" untapped hole at the last (taper crimp) station ( at least before I drilled/bored it out and threaded it to 11/16". 

Can anyone shed any light on why there would be no "Star Manufacturing" and patent number stamped on the top of the tool head?  And no, I am not wanting to sell it!

I had this problem with my .45 and a Hume type case feeder (its not marked, so I am not sure who made it).  It would feed .45's perfectly with the plate turned upside down (set for .38 Special), and I finally discovered that either the cases were a little too long or the distance between the bottom of the feed trough and the bottom of the plate was too short.  Eventually I milled a small amount from the bottom of the top plate, and everything has been fine since. Otherwise, you can trim your cases.

Glad to hear that you got your problem solved.  For years I seated the H&G #68 or clones with the shoulder about 1/16" ahead of the case mouth.  When I got a Sig P220, however, I had trouble with these shells feeding from the magazine and eventually went to seating the bullet shoulder basically even with the case mouth to get them to feed from the P220 magazine.  They still work fine through my 1911's so I seat everything to this length now.

You might want to check the length of your cases.  I had this problem feeding some .45 ACP cases that would hang up enough on the bottom of the feed plate to tip them backwards causing the base of the case to tip up in the manner you described.  If your case length is all right, you might need to mill a little off the bottom of the feed plate to fix the problem.  Good Luck
