Star Reloaders / Adjustable powder slides

I have one screw adjustable bar and want more.  I have some that I make inserts for which is easy.  I have the time, a lathe, mill, all the tooling, but not the experience making something with such tight tolerances. Are there any drawings or old magazine articles out there that may help?  Any advice?

Most just run straight through.  Some I put a little case lube on em when they stick.

Why are they brass?  What properties of brass make it preferable over aluminum?
