Star Reloaders / Crank handle gets loose . Solution
« on: January 28, 2016, 04:14:25 pm »
My Star tools have the crank handle secured with the Square head bolt that would loosen . My solution is to use a 3/8 x  16 TPI 1 inch bolt with a jam nut .

You can knock /pry out the key and check if the key has a burr or is out of square . Also check the key slot as it probably has a ridge on it  from forcing in the key. I think file to fit would work . And a brass  key might be easier to file and fit . If you can measure it with a  micrometer some of us will be able to tell if it the correct size .

I have been using a Star universal since  1960 . The Primer Follower Rod is made of steel with a tip made of a sort of fiber material . I purchased a newer ( had 1988 booklet with it ) Star that has a Follower Rod made of solid steel with a Red top plastic button grip . It is the correct length . Am I safe using this rod  ?   Should rods have a non metallic  end ? I have  a Phelps  with a  plastic cover over the last inch  . MY steel rod  fits  too closely in the small tube to ever have had a plastic coating over it .  I have 3 Stars and only this latest one has a solid steel rod . If anyone has a rod with this top button and solid steel or with a soft tip please let everyone know .
