Title: Star Press Variation
Post by: Diesel on May 14, 2008, 07:24:51 pm
I recently picked up a press with what appears to be an extra screw in the base. I originally thought it was the #47 Rocker Arm Screw with a larger head but upon closer inspection It appears to be an extra machine screw that partially covers the Rocker Arm Screw. I have not seen this on any other Star press and the factory exploded parts view does not show it. It appears to be a factory installation.

Does anyone have any idea what it's purpose is? It almost looks like a lock screw for the Rocker Arm Screw. I posted a photo.

Thanks,
Diesel

On some machines, the rocker arm screw has a habit of working its way out.   I suspect that the extra screw was added as a means of locking the rocker arm screw in place.

Thanks for the info. Was there a certain timeline in the production of the presses that they thought this was necessary or was it on an individual basis?

Thanks,

I don't think the extra screw was original.  It's probably a later addition.
