Title: Hole in the center of the 68U plug... why is it there?
Post by: daviscustom on March 17, 2021, 11:42:41 pm
Just looking at the 68U plug, and wondering what the purpose is for the hole in the middle?  Just curious what the general consensus is....just there to be able to hook it and pull it out with a piece of wire maybe?

I always thought the hole was a gas escape hole in case a cartridge got set off at that station.

That possibility crossed my mind. I’m not really sure how you could set off a cartridge at the taper crimp die but I guess anything is possible. I wondered if it was a place for powder to go if a primer didn’t get installed in the cartridge.

I have them both with and without a hole.

Place for debris to go sounds plausible.

It’s another air hole for the gremlins that live in there. :D

I went ahead and made mine with the hole.... I didn’t see any reason it would hurt anything to be there.
