Title: Packing for shipment ?
Post by: varmintpopper on December 11, 2012, 08:48:18 pm
Anyone have hints on how to pack a Star reloader for shipping that you would share ?  Wood box, Five gallon bucket, etc.
The ones that I bought new came in a heavy duty cardboard box made to properly fit the star. And at that time I think the
shippers were a bit more careful. As of late, I could tell horror stories about some of the items i have recieved.

The one that Bruce Williams sent me was packed very professionally....mounted on a solid wooden base...etc.

I would contact him for advice....if he doesn't respond to your request (which he probably will). :)

Bolt the base to a piece of plywood, remove the spring anchor hook, and do everything you can to keep it from moving around within the box.    I use a 20" double corregated cube, and isolate the Star with boxes full of styrofoam peanuts.   Styrofoam peanuts by themselves are of little use.

Correction, I use an 18" double corrugated cube.

If you bolt the base to a piece of plywood, Cut the plywood to
the inside size of your box, Cut another identical piece of
plywood and after removing the spring anchor hook, Use a
small screw the same size of the spring hook threads, Cut a
small hole in the middle of the plywood and secure the
plywood using the small screw through the hole where the
spring hook would normally screw into the top of the Star
machine. Pack the handle, powder tube, spring hook anchor
and primer tube in bubble wrap and any other loose parts
in bubble wrap. I wrap the Star real good with bubble wrap
and with the plywood keeping the Star stationary inside the
box you have less problems having the Star reloader moving
around and causing the damage if it were not secured inside
the box. I boxed three like this and was told they arrived
 without any damage during shipment.
