Post by: askimball (Doc) on January 22, 2011, 05:42:07 pm
I want to load 10mm & .38 Super, would machining down Dillon or RCBS dies be cheaper then fc60 making a set for you.. ???
Don't get me wrong fc60 makes supperb dies... 8) ::)
He's making a set of .45 Colt dies for me..
I just happen to have the other dies on hand... :D

If I had to pay a shop to turn down a set of dies , I'd probably just get a set from Dave.

I'd go with Dave's dies, you will have a beautiful custom die set that duplicates the original star dies.
IMHO, turning down dies is a bit like putting a Ford motor in a Chevy....it'll fit, but it ain't quite the same....that's just my personal feeling of course.
As for cost......by going with Dave don't forget you also end up with 2 sets of dies, the ones you have now plus the new set......or, you could sell the ones you have on hand now...
Cheers

being made ::) 8) :)

I have 3 sets of Star Daves Dies (SDD's)...  44 Magnum, 38 Super Comp and 40 S&W.  They all work flawlessly and are true artisan items.
I really appreciate how Dave emulates, as close as possible, the original Lyfetime STAR designs and checkering.   They are very much in
keeping with the STAR look.  His expander plugs are really quite nice and durable.

That all said, I do think there is room for experimentation...

I would like Dave to consider, if possible, a Redding style competition micrometer seater seater stem adjustment.
Gilding the lilly?  Probably.
