Title: Primer Bushing Thread Size
Post by: fc60 on September 08, 2010, 02:24:44 pm
Greetings,

Does any one know the proper thread size for the Primer Punch Bushing, Item #26?

My best guess so far is 0.400-27 UNS, based on the three that I measured.

Nothing comes close in the Machinery Handbook.

I suspect buying a tap would be a major challenge.

Cheers,

Dave Wilson

While we're on the subject of threads, i'm also trying to figure out the thread for the steel ball plug. Hope anybody can help. Thanks.

Hi Guys, Not to sure the threads on the bushings but I do have some extras along with the punches, as for the ball plug I think it is a 1/2 x 27, I may have an extra of those too. Give me a PM if interested.

Greetings,

I measured Item #54, Steel Ball Plug, and find it to be a 9/16-27 UNS thread. Sure glad my lathe cuts a 27 thread!

Cheers,

Dave

Dave: What brand and model lathe do you use?  I will be retiring soon and may want to get
a lathe.

Greetings,

I have a South Bend 13" lathe with the quick change gearbox.

You may wish to consider the smaller South Bend Heavy 10 with the wide range gearbox. I believe it cuts 27 pitch threads without a supplemental gear. It have the larger 1 3/8" through the spindle bore for barrel work.

Cheers,

Dave
