Title: DIY refurbishing a SU base
Post by: Follow Me on August 18, 2019, 11:04:41 am
Greetings
I recently bought a refurbished SU from “Star Machine Works” and it looks/functions great. Money well spent is my assessment. But putting the recent machine next to my 42 year old machine makes me ashamed of my housekeeping/maintenance efforts. I have made admirable improvement topside but the aluminum base is a real bear to clean and polish. I certainly understand that the base “beauty” has nothing to do with the  intended purpose of the machine. But the “$#€&” thing looks bad.
Suggestions please.
BTW, the status quo is not an option.
Regards

Give it a good scrubbing with Marvel Mystery Oil using 0000 steel wool.
Follow up with some Simichrome 390050 All Metal Polish or other aluminum polish.
And you'll also need a can of elbow grease the size of the can will depend on just how much of a perfections you are. :)
