Star Reloaders / Re: Help
« on: February 10, 2021, 03:55:29 pm »
A lot of lubricant and a little muscle and head came off.

Now neither that head or my or others will go on more than in inch or two without force.
Do not want to force them.

The shaft appears to have no damage and appears straight. The keyways look okay.
Press has not been off bench mount in years until today to remove stuck head. No dropping etc..

Could shaft be bent?  Could normal loading do this?
Keyways are pressed in. Could that be issue.?
At a loss. Not sure where to begin.

Star Reloaders / Help
« on: February 10, 2021, 02:49:54 pm »
Started a reloading session for 148gr, .38spl.
Loaded about 10-12 rounds.
Moved the handle and loaded another round. As I raised handle. it went up a little and then just stopped. Head is stuck.
Attempted partial disassembly. Shell plate moves. All dies free and clear.
Lubricated machine and struck a few times with a rubber mallet with no change.
Head is stuck.
Maybe shaft or keyway problem?

If I can figure how to reduce photo size will post.

Might be going to Bruce.

Star History / Re: Powder Shut-Off

Interesting. First time seeing a shut off built in. Maybe a prototype that was not utilized?

Also interesting is the Red paint. Wonder if it it original or someone went to the effort to change colors.

Also, there is some type of threaded thumb screw near the safety cam. Have not seen that before either. Would speculate it was some sort of stop for the final finished round?

Bruce..What say you?

No, I do not think it is okay. It may function, but it also stresses the case and could lead to premature case failure.

Have you confirmed this is occurring at the seater die and not another stage.

Perhaps the case is being impacted at the powder drop and being slightly compressed by the spout when the head is brought down?  Possible also on the priming station but less likely.

Definitely let us know when you work it out and find the cause.

Stars Want to Sell/Want to Buy / Re: Should I Stick With Star?
« on: January 11, 2021, 08:19:57 am »
Asking which way to go on a Star forum, is going to get you a Star answer.
Anyway, do not believe you can go wrong with either of your first two options. You already have one, so you know the quality and reliability. One Universal with additional heads and you are good to go for everything you want.

In my opinion, the main reason to consider a Dillon is that startup cost should be a little less of an investment, but depending on which model and options, it could cost just as much if not more.

And based on die availability, etc. you could be up and running with a Star a little quicker.
Good luck

Star Reloaders / Re: .223 Super Stars Conversions

Had read that a few times. Great example of a small need that sparked a multi-million dollar business!

Was not very active in rifle at that time, so really no no interest in the conversion. What might have been!

Did not see a date on the flyer.
Any idea when it was produced?

As your link was to 8 years ago, I would imagine that you have indeed sold a fair number of them.

Dave

Figured it was related to a case feeder, but not sure.
You confirmed it.
Thank you!

Found a Star Adapter listed for sale on Ebay.
Not really sure what it adapts.  Maybe a case feeder?

Tried to upload a picture but file size was too large.
Link may not work, but copy and paste in browser should.

Loading Data & Reloading Procedures / Re: Loading Hi-Tek coated bullets
« on: December 05, 2020, 08:20:14 pm »
I too have loaded coated bullets. Specifically S&S. I found they loaded the same as jacketed heads, without having to change the belling. (It is slightly larger than loading lead) Whether it changes for you would depend how much of a bell your original setting was.
Otherwise loading was without any problems or issues, and finished rounds were of expected Star quality!
Good luck shooting!

Stars Want to Sell/Want to Buy / Re: 45acp Universal for sale

An inquiry was made about whether he had moulds. The owner stopped casting in the late 1960's, and no longer  has his moulds, only the electric lead pot. Other Bullseye related items were 2 gun boxes (1 Pachmyer, 1 other) a 60s Colt 1911 w/Bo-mar rib accurized by pistolsmith Al Dinan of Ct., as well as a couple of High Standard pistols.
Regards to all.
