Finding all that for $500.00 was a very lucky and rare find. I hope you bought a lottery ticket on the way home.

All new underground drainage and piping is supposed to remove all excess water from ranges, and divert it away to limit if not eliminate the mud.
Main goal was to limit range damage, side benefit is shooters comfort.

We shall see!

The price is/was around the average area for pricing as it is in the common .45 caliber.

Part of the reason it may have sold so quick is the excellent condition this machine is in.

Mr. Walters;

Would that be the straight-line rifle machine for the military or a variance of the Progressive/Universal?

Star Reloaders / Re: STAR BASE OR NOT?
« on: November 25, 2015, 06:00:25 pm »
Almost all the original Star bases I have seen have the blue tint. Additionally, I have never seen a Universal with the base having been grinded flat in the area of the locating straps. Based on above, I would speculate it is probably a Phelps, or other knock-off.

Considering the declining numbers on this forum over the last few years, listing on Ebay is a good idea if just for the exposure.

I would hope that maybe you suggest this forum for those that purchase from you on Ebay, as they may not know of it.

I myself learned about this site from a friend or I might not have come across this site, as early as I did.

Additionally you can refer to the StarReloaders.com title page. That answer, but also a lot more info on Stars without having to navigate through all the various forum topics if you are pressed for time. Otherwise the old forum posts are a tremendous source of info.

I think it is safe to assume if Bruce has no idea, we will never know, unless someone finds all their business records, which by now are probably long gone to the dust pile.

And machines built in the 30s are still functioning and is use! As you say a testament to the Star.

You are right in that there were relatively few changes. As the Star remained almost the same, their total production numbers over the years were substantially higher than many other presses from the many manufacturers, almost making them common. The Star quality is probably one of the reasons for smaller numbers of other presses, as most could not complete with the Star, and thus did not last long.

Do you know or is there any idea of how many Star presses were actually made and sold over the years?

Thanks for the info.

It is interesting the more that is found out, the more questions arise!

For those that acquired the first 12, I would think they were people who knew what they had, and information could have been passed down with them. Unfortunately, I might speculate the early owners are long past, and whoever inherited them know nothing about them and they were readily discarded, or are still in an attic or basement and whoever finds them will have no idea what they are.

Thus the other 6 may never be found again.

Thanks. The two you have are in better condition than most I have seen pictures of. Not having seen one in person, am wondering.
Was 30/06 the only caliber they were made in?
Are they caliber specific or could changes be made?
Any idea how many actually were manufactured?

Will probably never know or be able to find out, but would be interesting to know the thoughts behind making them, who for and why. Etc.
