Title: REFINISH
Post by: askimball (Doc) on January 16, 2011, 03:57:52 pm
Hey Guys
Anybody have a problem with me sand blasting the Aluminum Base....
This machine I stated loading with for the S'port pistol team when I was on the Shreveport Police Dept., After moving to the new Academy we got a Camdex.....Just used the Star to reload for the pistol team.... ::)
I retired in 1980....After years went by I went back helping them on the range for the Recruit training day/s....
Later, the Star disappeared.......
Just 2 weeks ago they found it stuffed in a cabinet back in a corner.....Rusty & parts missing..They told me I could have it....!!!! YEH..!!!  ;D Glocks won't use & don't like reloads...........

I have never seen an aluminum base that needed sand blasting.   I don't know the vintage of you Star, but on older ones, the aluminum base was painted.   I have used paint stripper followed by light use of a buffing wheel to clean them up.   I have never repainted one, but you could do that as well.

This one has sat under a bottom shelf in a cabinet jammed in the corner....Looks crappy, spotted...
I was going to blast it and spray it with a hard clear coat...... ??? ??? ???

I'd try blasting with plastic bead on the base first if it were me, if your wanting to blast it

I have had excellent results using a wet SOS or Brillo pad on the base then followed by
a metal polish like Wenol Red, then Weno Blue.  The result is quite brilliant and
highly polished.
