Greetings,

Your story warms my heart. Same thing happened to me.

I made some #23 Primer Slide Springs and have several remaining.

Send me your mailing address and I will put one in the mail.

Cheers,

Dave

Star Reloaders / Re: Hulme case feeder question
« on: June 22, 2013, 03:15:40 pm »
Greetings John,

You are correct. There should be a set screw located in the threaded hole in the front of the piston.

You position the axle and roller so the roller spins freely and snug the set screw onto the axle.

Cheers,

Dave

Star Reloaders / Re: Star sizer and loader at work in 1936
« on: May 05, 2013, 11:44:50 am »
I enjoyed that very much.

Interesting to see the Star Greaser and Reloader. If the copyright on the film is correct as 1936 Star, when did the Star tools first appear on the market?

The mould I saw is a Cramer, I believe, not a Hensley and Gibbs.

Many thanks,

Dave

Greetings Bruce,

Send me a copy of the bullet feeder instructions. I have a bullet feeder; but, do not know who made it.

Star Reloaders / Re: Star Lifetyme Dies

Greetings Mac,

Redding make a 2-stage sizing die with 7/8-14 threads...

Your two Lifetyme dies intrigue me. I would like the opportunity to examine them first hand. I am wondering if the second die is for the 32-20 cartridge?

Star Reloaders / Threaded Part Identification
« on: March 24, 2013, 12:58:47 pm »
Greetings,

The threaded part in photo one is for the Star Greaser. It is used to pull the sizing die out of the Aluminum casting. Sadly, you are missing one piece. The part that actually removes the die.

The knurled knob threads into the upper housing and the smaller rod is used to push out the remaining bullet from the greaser die so you can insert the missing rod to pull the die out. Remember to back off the set screw on the side of the casting.

Cheers,

Dave

Star Reloaders / Re: Star for a .30 Cal Carbine?
« on: March 08, 2013, 08:22:16 pm »
Greetings,

I have machined 30 Carbine die sets in the past. In fact, I have a request in now for a new set.

I am a bit puzzled, is the Star pictured equipped with 30 Carbine dies? Or, are you wondering about converting to 30 Carbine?

As to value, do a search on eBay for completed auctions. I have not seen a 30 Carbine sold lately; but, it might bring a good price as it is not too common. Best scenario is to get two beered up bidders after the same tool.

Dave

Star Reloaders / Parts Availability
« on: March 08, 2013, 08:16:37 pm »
Greetings,

There are a number of sources for parts.

Bill Cunningham purchased the Star Reloader inventory and has quite a few pieces remaining.

http://www.starmachineworks.com/index.html

Richard Daniels (barrel tester) was machining shell plates; but, is currently moving his shop to another location. He may have some inventory remaining.

Myself, (fc60), I machine replica die sets. I have also machined other small parts to fit the Star.

In summary, just place a "WANTED" posting on the Forum and someone will probably come to your aid.

Dave

Stars Want to Sell/Want to Buy / Re: WT/B 9x21 Star dies
« on: February 23, 2013, 03:08:03 pm »
Greetings Lindy,

Thanks for the reminder. I have gleaned manuals for guns thanks to Steve's website.

The cartridge drawings are excellent for a high level view of the cartridge. Sadly, they are not detailed enough to machine a shell plate or dies. The SAAMI site is the place I rely on for fully dimensioned drawings when I fabricate my Star tooling.

Cheers,

Dave

Greetings,

I was unable to locate a SAAMI drawing of the 9x21 cartridge. Is it merely a lengthened 9mm NATO round?

Would you use a set of 9mm dies to size the case?

If so, I can machine up a 9mm die set for you.

Cheers,

Dave

Greetings,

I have a shell plate for the 38 S&W/Colt New Police cartridge to sell. While a 38 Special will fit into it, it is not a preferred choice.

If memory serves me well, you can use 38 ACP/38 Super dies to load this cartridge.

$82.00 shipped to your door.

Cheers,

Dave

Star Reloaders / Re: 7.9x33 question
« on: February 01, 2013, 11:49:20 am »
Greetings,

The bottle-neck case is not suited for sizing on the Star, in my opinion. One could size the brass on a single stage press, then run it through the Star for priming, powder dispensing, seating, and crimping.

I do not see SAAMI drawings for the 7.9x33 cartridge.

Modifying existing dies or machining new ones from scratch would take some thought.

Cheers,

Dave
