Bruce Star sold tool heads modified for 7/8 14 dies they also recess the shell plates for the dies. I have several machines that are that way.

When the 44 Auto Mag. came out  RCBS made me a set of dies 7/8 by 14.  That was in 1972.
They were cut for me but not case hardened.

Bruce,  We  reload with  about 50 active Star reloaders and have about 50 set back for different configurations. We at one time used Ammo load reloaders but they are not as good as the Star..
I have Mocks personal rifle press. It is massive compared to regular stars. Also you wanted to know about the nut on the base of the lubricator.  I have sixteen long tube lubers and I am sure that our first one was bought in 1968 they all have the nut.  Hope this helps.

Hello Dave,

Let me know when you make some Hulme springs,  We could use about twenty five or so.

the 44 sizers and 45 long colts are excellent as always.  Give me a e-mail when you are ready to start.

Thanks Bob

Star Reloaders / Re: The Holy Grail of Star dies

Hello All,

Just wanted to comment on Super Dave Wilson.  Loaded thousand rounds of 9mm Makarov with a set of dies Dave made for us. Excellent Quality workmanship. Loads look better than factory. He has done great work for me.  I put an order in for a set of 44/40 dies and am sure they will be good to go.  Thanks Dave.

Star Reloaders / Re: Angled primer problem

the shell plate maybe too loose.  when adjusting the shell plate, tighten it and then back up about one eighth of a turn. the ball can only go so far. Hope this works for you.

The Star reloader has no priming system. the primihg fixture was hand fitted to each machine. As it appears in pictures it would only be good for parts.

When you are installing the sizing die, screw the die down with the tool head in lowest position while the primer punch is in the highest position. Then screw the sizing die down to the shell plate so that a piece of paper barely fits between the sizing die and shell plate. (The paper should clear between the die and shell plate). Before tightening down the sizing die, it helps to run a case into the sizing die and then tighten it down while the toolhead is in the down position. This aligns the case to the die.

P.S. A couple things to note. First are you using a carbide die? Secondly it may be beneficial to grease the cases prior to loading, although it can be a pain to have to get the grease off of a loaded round (lighter fluid) Also, there is a chance that your brass may be the problem. We run all of our pistol brass through a reverse sizer before loading. This takes the buldges out. (sometimes these budlges are not very noticable but can cause problems with loading) Hope this helps you out.

Star Lubricator & Resizers / Star Lubricator
« on: October 28, 2012, 09:15:32 am »
Does anybody have a large tube lubricator?  We had some made by Star and they have a tube about 15 inches long.  They are great for lubing large quanties of bullets. They have about twice the capacity of the standard lubricator.  We buy Thompson bullet lube in blocks and make our own sticks of lube.

I contacted Rich Daniels about the 44/40 shell plate and will get one made.  He made a 500 S&W shell plate before for me. He still is in Conn.  Also will make a 9mm makarov expander die.  He did some tool heads 7/8-14 for rcbs dies.
