Star Reloaders / Re: Parts
« on: February 21, 2009, 09:04:51 pm »
I believe I paid $ 99.00 including shipping.
He has had them on ebay occasionally at a little less w/buy it now, and various shipping options/incentives.
I bought it when I was able to acquire a 9mm setup, and have ability to load differing combinations of heads and powder loads.

Sorry but I do not have a picture.
Overall sized and similar to a standard slide. Center elongated with a sliding adjustment that is moved by a threaded stem that protrudes. Very tight, and holds setting, although I confirm regularly for safety.
Comes with a conversion chart to help get stared quickly.

Hoag also made on in the past. Very similar in nature.
Rich is one of the few persons I am aware of still making items for the Star.
I do not know Rich personally, but am happy with dealing with him so far.

Yes Ron, does make you wonder. Most I guess is just timing.

I took a closed look, and I did notice on the 9mm for $ 409.00 that it was a progressive only. No locater straps. I was not aware Star made a progressive in anything but 32 or 38. Maybe, or it was a parts press that was adapted?

Looking closer you can tell the powder bar actuating arm is screwed/bolted/riveted to the base.
The link arm body is square.
The powder housing looks like brass?

Maybe if not a star, maybe a Phelps?

I would concur that it is a Star, but very early in the development. My opinion anyway.
Powder slide assembly, safety cam, etc., all star like.
Would only wonder if all the parts are truly compatible with later versions.

Judging by the pictures, it looks to be in good clean condition, and most likely functional. May be a cost effective way for someone looking to load the three calibers with standard thread dies that currently uses a single stage.

Missed at least one, sold by rbwillnj

Dec 08. Star Universal in .45 CAP with Hume casefeeder.  $ 1,000.00

Was sold through Buy it now, which also included dies, plate and parts for .38.
The condition was exceptional! As close as you could ever find to being new. Clean, no rust, and you could even say shiny new like it was taken out of the original box.  No wonder the listing sold in less than three hours! If was not on line long enough for me to see it.

As of yet no bids on Ebay for the CPM.
Could be any of the reasons alluded to in the posts above.

The powder slide assembly looks differant also.
I would think the 7/8 x 14 die thread size would be a plus, especially with plates available from Rich Daniels in Ct. But the differences in compatibility with a genuine Star could be a drawback, especially if there are problems.

Continued.

01/21 Berdan Head. takes 7/8 x 14 dies. Shell plate but no dies. Caliber ?  $ 242.50
01/23 Star Universal .38 and .45 on extra head. Used, but still good condition. $ 560.00
01/24 Star Universal .38. Very Good to excellent condition. $ 408.95

I suppose the Star reputation still is recognized, but I find some of the prices a bit surprising. I would expect a full 9mm machine to go for more than it did, and a .38 only progressive, would have been less because of the limitations.
Extra heads are nice to have, but almost the same as a complete machine!

Will list the CPM after it sells also.
