Stars Want to Sell/Want to Buy / Re: Star Reloader for sale
« on: June 04, 2012, 03:06:02 pm »
Just for the record, I always have Star Reloaders for sale.  I currently have three Star Universals in 45ACP complete with taper crimp dies and Hulme case feeders.  If interested, send me a PM for pricing and pictures.

Most Phelps, especially early ones are great machines, but unfortunately because they are copies of Stars, they don't command the same price.  I think the price guidance that Dave (fc60) gave you is good for a Phelps.  I would expect that a Star in the same condition as your machine would go for more.

Phelps tool heads are not stamped, Star tool heads are stamped with Star Machine Works, and the Patent Number.

I have a couple roller handles available for sale.  $30 plus shipping each.

The machine pictured looks like a Phelps, not a Star.

Star Reloaders / Re: PHELPS POSTING AS STAR / PHELPS
« on: May 22, 2012, 03:46:10 pm »
There have been instances where sellers either knowingly or unknowingly list a Phelps Reloader as Star.  When that happens, I often contact the seller and politely explain the difference.  In most cases they are quick correct the listing.  Most sellers, especially those who sell on eBay regularly, do not wish to mislead their customers.  There are some exceptions.

In the case of the eBay listing mentioned above, the seller clearly identifies the the Reloader and the Tool Head as being Phelps products.  I perceive no intent to deceive perspective buyers.  He is simply including Star in the title of the listing so that those who are interested in Star reloaders and have searches designed to show new Star listings will also see his/her listing.   If I had a Phelps to sell, and if I wanted to sell it on eBay, I would list it the same way, Star/Phelps but clearly identify the reloader as a Phelps.

You would be surprised how many Phelps owners are members of this forum.  I for one, welcome them, and discourge Phelps bashing.   A Phelps is not a Star, but many are very nice machines.

By the way, it looks like a very nice Phelps, but I do think the eBay seller is being a little optimistic about the price he can get for his Phelps,.... but who knows.

DDS,

As we established earlier, your machine is the very rare Star Rifle machine, not the Dillon Superstar conversion.

That being said, the Dillion Superstar conversion kit included a unique replacement ram for the Hulme.  It also included a Hulme top plate for feeding .223.  Together they feed .223 flawlessly.

For what it's worth, there is a stud type 38 Special Taper Crimp die on eBay now.  I believe someone else was looking for one as well, but I can't find the posting.  EBay Item 190677589749

Star Reloaders / Re: Hulme Case feed

It is one of the many versions of the Hulme case feeder.   It attaches to the reloader with an Allen socket head screw like other versions, but uses a shorter screw than later models.  The hole in the side is to help hold/guide the screw as its being threaded into the base.

I think I have cataloged six or seven versions of Hulmes now....mostly slight variations.
