Star Reloaders / Re: Selling Star reloaders - Pictures Added

The following are obvious, others may be more observant.
Pictures 2,4,5,6, are missing powder tube, case feeder tube, primer follower rod.

Picture 3 missing powder housing, powder slide, and powder tube, as well as primer follower rod.

You can check out the pictures and diagrams associated with the Star Reloaders home page of this site to get a better idea of parts and accessories.

They do look like they need some care and attention, but not beyond hope.

I pretty much concur with everyone's comments. Just wanted to see other thoughts.

All the tools, gimmicks, an d accessories may help some, but caution and attention to what you are doing is the key.
I too have not had a double or missed powder round, which I attribute to a regular routine for what I am doing.

Star Reloaders / Interesting Ebay item
« on: May 27, 2009, 09:54:00 pm »
Currently listed in Ebay is an item for the Star. The "instacheck"
Started at $ 15.00, with buy it now for $ 20.00

Description says it checks for double powder charges, or no powder charge in case before seating.
Manual operation.

Any comments from anyone?

Star Reloaders / Re: Conversion of my Star Progressive to 9mm
« on: May 27, 2009, 10:43:26 am »
There are two main differences between the Progressive and Universal that I am aware of.
The progressive does not have the shell plate locating straps for adjustment.
It has the "O" size (smaller) powder measure.
I do not think the lack of straps will impact with 9mm, as much as other calibers, and the "O" bar should be able to be enlarged to drop what you need to load, or you can get an adjustable one.
Unless another member knows otherwise, the other parts should be interchangeable.

Maybe I am missing sonmething in your question, but with the ease  of changing out toolheads, calibers, etc., there is not really a big advantage in what you want to do by changing the caliber of a dedicated machine.

I understand that, It makes sense that not everything is for speed, etc., but for ease of use. This actually makes more sense than simply doing so to load XX more per hour.

I have not noticed any decline in the quality of my reloads. (missed primers, etc.) Machine is circa 1965, but has been maintained. Cleaned when needed, never forced, not abused. I think that makes a difference in their longevity. Only time I experienced some problems, that I can recall is when I changed something. Differant primers, brass, etc., and all were short term.

Certainly, the main componet is knowing the feel of your particular machine. That alone will lesson the problems.
I wonder how many people learned the hard way. Starting to reload, doing a few hundred in a few hours, only to find a problem after the fact, instead of before.

Bruce;;

Educate me.
I understand the "feel" you mention. I too notice a probelm (such as a high primer, or powder buildup) by hand turning, that you would not see with an indexer.
But; would you not notice (or hear) a plate alignment, binding, or scraping problem? I would think they would cause problems in operation with an indexer even if not felt would be seen or heard.
If it were the brass case, damage if any at all should be minimal as brass is a much softer material?

Hugh;

What is your rate?
Any special techniques. I have one, never used it. I do not doubt it would speed up, but how much?
Adding in case feeders, and primer turrets, large capacity powder hopper, what do you think is a really achievable number?

Taking my time, sipping coffee, iced tea, etc. I load 300 per hour, including refill of powder, primers, etc.
Having all prepared and ready to go, loading continuously, I can do 500.
