Title: Help identifying Seater Dies
Post by: GreenRiverBoy on March 16, 2020, 06:51:53 pm
Good evening to Everyone,

I'm hoping someone may know who manufactured these two seater dies both in 38spl. I first thought they were both made by Star but the knurling is different. Maybe both Star from different time periods?

I've got a few progressives and a universal that I'm bringing back to life (one from a house fire) and thought I would attempt to make them as period-correct as possible while going through the process.

Thanks for any insight!

They are both original Star seating dies.  The one on the right is older, but not the oldest style.   I think I have encountered at least four, maybe five different styles.  The one on the left is much newer.   You didn't say what caliber, I'm guessing 38 Special.  If it is, that style was used right up to the end and I still have a bunch of those in inventory.

I have 16 each  38 cal. seater dies in My spares, I found 6 that were obviously machined different from each other.
I believe these are all manufactured by star.

Good Shooting
