Title: Primer Seating Issue
Post by: MikeM on October 31, 2018, 01:46:41 pm
I use a Star Progressive Press to reload .45 ACP.  Occasionally a round will come out without a primer seated. I would say 15 rounds per 100 loaded come out without the primer seated. Anyone else have this problem?

It’s almost impossible to tell when it happens, although I do notice that usually the casemouth on those rounds aren’t  “belled” properly either. Belling and primer seating happen under the same spot in the process. It makes a mess with powder spilling into the underside workings.

Short stroking or short brass.
I can't imagine why anyone would shortstroke a Star,
so l guess you got the wrong rangescrap shells.

Could there be some small primer brass mixed in?

Defiantly no small primer pockets. I check those religiously. All brass is once fired and un trimmed.

Greetings,

Over time, the primer tube gets "crud" inside.

Try cleaning with some Q-Tips soaked in 99% Isopropyl Alchohol.

Push them all the way through with the primer follower rod.

Cheers,

Dave
