Star History / No more Star Greasers....
« on: February 09, 2024, 08:34:15 pm »
Greetings,

When Star of San Diego closed, Magma Engineering purchased the Greaser tooling and parts.

I have now learned that two weeks from today, 09FEB2024, the assets of Magma Engineering will be auctioned off.

Mr. Clausing said that sourcing of castings and other material along with not being able to find skilled conventional Machinists led to his decision to close shop.

No one has come forward to purchase the company.

So, if you want a Star Greaser, now is the time to buy.

Hopefully, we will not see Star Greasers of Communist China on the horizon.

Good news, taken care of, the Greasers will outlast the owner.

Cheers,

Dave

Star Reloaders / Glass Powder Hopper
« on: January 11, 2024, 04:15:15 pm »
Greetings,

I purchased a new Glass Powder Hopper with shutoff slide via eBay.

Very nicely machined.

However, the mounting thread is WRONG.

As supplied, it is a 9/16-27 STRAIGHT thread and does not fit the powder housing correctly.

I notified the Seller; but, no response.

I plan to chuck the offending part in my lathe and machine the CORRECT TAPERED THREAD when it warms up a bit.

Cheers,

Dave

Greetings,

A fellow shooter no longer participates and wants to sell his Star Loader.

45 ACP.

It was purchased new from Star in 1971.

In 1984, it was placed in a box and forgotten about until a few weeks ago.

I have had many Star presses pass through my hands and this one is a close to new condition as I have ever seen.

The loader has a LifeTyme Carbide sizing die, a bullet seater with a nose punch for a swaged Lead SWC, and a Taper Crimp die.

Both large and small pistol primer feed and pickup tubes are include. Along with the primer punches and punch installation tool.

Asking price is $600.00 and the buyer pays actual shipping from ZIP 98385. I will likely ship it UPS unless there is a more cost effective route.

Cheers,

Dave

Stars Want to Sell/Want to Buy / FOR SALE --- 9mm Shell Plate
« on: October 01, 2021, 11:23:19 am »
Greetings,

I have for sale a 9mm Shell Plate.

It is not dimensionally correct.

The hole in the center is oversize (1.257")

I tested it on my machine and sized and primed several cases with no issues.

However, it is not genuine Star quality. The hole is oversize.

$65.00 plus postage.

Cheers,

Dave

Greetings,

I have a shell plate for the 38 S&W/Colt New Police cartridge to sell. While a 38 Special will fit into it, it is not a preferred choice.

If memory serves me well, you can use 38 ACP/38 Super dies to load this cartridge.

$82.00 shipped to your door.

Cheers,

Dave

Star Reloaders / Seeking the advice from a Commercial Electrician
« on: January 25, 2013, 01:16:19 pm »
Greetings,

In the process of machining replica Star parts I rely on my three phase power generator to run my machine tools.

I would like to install a three phase jack so I can plug in lesser used equipment as needed.

I seek council on which NEMA plugs and receptacles to purchase. Along with a suitable surface mounted box to house the receptacle.

20 amps 240 volt would be the load desired.

Perhaps this individual has surplus parts??? I know a guy that could supply replica Star parts as barter.

Cheers,

Dave

My immediate concern are Tim Vaitakonos, Robert Korvosa, "Spec", and Ed Nixon.

If those folks are reading this, please send me a personal message to the Starreloaders website.

Many thanks,

Star Reloaders / Modify for Auto Eject???
« on: October 19, 2012, 05:01:15 pm »
Greetings All,

I have a Star with a "modification" to the base as shown in the two attached images. The wire in one image was there as received.

Bill Cunningham offers a modification for "Auto Eject". Is this modification the same?

Cheers,

Dave

Star Reloaders / Odd Powder Magazine
« on: October 15, 2012, 11:57:42 am »
Greetings,

Purchased a powder magazine for the Star at the local gun show. It is 23" long! It appears factory as the brass nose looks correct along with the aluminum baffle. The tube is also marked with the Excelon trade mark.

True, someone could have bought some tubing and transferred the parts; but, is it possible Star made this item as a custom request?

Does anyone else have such a long tube knowing it was supplied from Star?

Cheers,

Dave

Greetings all,

Just purchased a used Chevron Case feeder. It is set up for 45 ACP.

I was hoping someone out there has an Owners Manual and Parts List they could copy and send me.

I am most interested to learn if I need separate rotating disks for different calibers.

Cheers,

Dave Wilson
