Stars Want to Sell/Want to Buy / Re: Universal in 9mm for sale
« on: August 17, 2011, 11:06:43 am »
That price is not out of line at all. The Star is no longer being made and that in itself makes the price reasonable. The 1986 prices on the attachments that are shown with that machine are. Hulme case feeder $150.00, MA System shell plate rotator $129.00, MA System case ejector $36.00. Those attachments are also very hard to acquire. With the attachments shown and working properly makes it a fully progressive machine in that only the bullet placement is necessary.

From what I understand Star had a fixture to assemble those parts. I wonder if Bill Cunningham would know.

It looks like that machine has had very little useage but was left in a damp environment. I would contact Star Machine Works as I understand he does restoration work on Star Machines.

Star Reloaders / Re: Modifications to powder charge bars

I think the 1/2" bar with the Hornady bushings work the best. I select a few bushings to zero in on a desired velocity  and if necessary hand ream the closest bushing to get it. Once everything is established I can change powders and bullets without any adjustments. It's a soild system that dosen't change.

Star Reloaders / Re: Star Press Bullet Feeder

MA Systems is the only one that I know of that made an Easy Loader Bullet Feeder for the Star. It is a wonderful design but was very expensive. In 1986 the Easy Loader alone was $350.00 then you also needed a bullet collator and an air supply for an additional expenditure so needless to say I didn't purchase it at the time. In 2003 I moved to Arizona and came to know the people that developed the Kiss Bullet Feeder which is a good design that is much easier to use, however it is not useable for the Star. A lot of shooters here in Az bought the Kiss Feeder and one of them had a MA System Easy Loader that he no longer used on his Dillon 1050 and sold it to me for $100.00. It's not easy to set it up but if done correctly produces great results and is one of those items that you wondered how you got along without it all of those years. How good is it? I loaded 3400 rounds Sunday without a hitch. I think the fellow that sold it to me had not set it up properly as one of the control switches was installed in incorrectly. One of these days I"ll put the Star Loader on You-Tube.

Star Reloaders / Bullet Seater

Thanks to Dave Wilson for the two bullet seaters that he machined for me. They match the bullet profiles perfectly. I am very particular with my Star and would not hesitate at all to order anything needed from Dave.

Star Reloaders / Re: CCI Large Pistol Primers getting sideways
« on: January 20, 2011, 09:31:17 pm »
Salty I have used Winchester small rifle primers loading 38 s/c starline brass since 1986 and have probably loaded 300,000 rnds since then.I can remember about a half dozen primers that were out of spec during that time period that would hang up in the magazine. I would clear the magazine and identify the bad primer but I never had to force anything. Try another brand of primers and good luck.

If you are using the right size primer magazine that should not happen. Is there a ding in the tube? Have Bruce send you a new magazine. Driving primers out of magazines is risky business.
