Cannot shed much light on Paul's claims, but possibly will depend on what one considers a "salesman".

Reason I say this, is that Gil Hebard of Gil Hebard Guns fame, at one time, inventoried, sold and marketed Star reloaders and Lubrisizers in his catalogs.

Star Reloaders / Re: Lifetyme Two-Stage Carbide .38 Spl Sizing Die

I was never aware of this.
I had a second .38 head, included with a .38 machine that dated from the 50s. Both were set up for loading the exact same load. Never looked at the dies. Could not fathom why someone would have two exact same head set-ups. Until now! The second had the same 2S die! Now I know why!

Thanks Dave.

Lindy
Great to see pics of the early years.
Bruce: I remember seeing those,

My dad made bullets and I helped him as a kid. (In the 60s)
Had a 200 grain in 45 and a 148 grain in 38.
Have his ingot trays, lead ingots, sizer, dies, and lube, but never found the moulds themselves.
As health concerns arose with melting lead, he may have sold them.
Wish I still had them though.

Good shooting.

Star Reloaders / Re: Adjustable Powder Charge Bar

Nice work!
Do not forget the time it takes you to do the actual machining and work!

My guess is there is a market for you, and you will sell some.  But the market is very very small, especially considering the number of bars that accept bushings. But for those that would like one you would be a resource.

I have both types (screw adj & bushing) and use the screw adjustable bar to develop loads or when using a different powder. Once I know the load, I use a drilled bushing.
While I have never had an adjustable bar 'self adjust' I am always concerned it could.

Good luck.

You can also look on this site for my listings of past sales, etc. This was Ebay, Gunbroker and other sale sites.

It has not been updated for a few years as sales have been consistent as the prices and have pretty much remained steady. However, I have noted that prices appear to be dropping slightly. I think this is due to aging out of Star owners and a smaller group of newly interested reloaders considering a Star.  I suppose that diminishing participation and interest in Precision Bullseye pistol as a sport is also a contributing factor.

Lindy;

Very difficult to find original. Few and far between.

Rich Daniels in CT. can make you one. He is  "Barreltester"  on this forum.

Good luck

Other than possibly having to adjust your crimp, there should be nothing else you would need to do, except powder measure as you mention
Good luck..

An option for adjustable bars are bushing bares that Bruce has. Possible Rich Daniels “barrel tester” on this site may have screw adjustable bars.

For the other accessories unfortunately, there is no resource for most of the items, as the sources are mostly out of business or retired. If Bruce does not have, the other options are Ebay, or as posted on the Bullseye Forum.

Fortunately the other items are all “extras” and not required to use the Star to reload.
Good,luck!

Loading Data & Reloading Procedures / Powder Bushings

Verify, Verify, Verify!

I have an "00" slide that takes adjustable bushings and a few inserts from Bruce Williams. Checked them prior to loading and they were spot on.

I also have a 1/2 inch bar that came with a number of inserts, (non Bruce Williams). Came with the head for .45LC.  Each marked and in separate small marked bag. Had one marked 6.5 Bullseye. Threw charges of 7.0.
Now have a 6.5 ordered from Bruce.

I have them both with and without a hole.

Place for debris to go sounds plausible.

The internal dimension is associated with fitting over the column.
The overall outer dimension is important to insure the plate seats correctly in the machine base. Obviously if too large and it will not fit and index correctly.  Too small and it will begin to impact shell alignment and location at each station. The locator straps function with a correctly sized shell plate to insure cases are centered at each station of he loading process.

Bruce Williams,   "RBWillNJ"  on this site is the resource for all parts Star.

Posted by EagleMike elsewhere in this forum 11/01/2005.

"I remember several times Elard would grumble about people wanting a powder cut-off. He indicated that he thought it was a bad idea. He wanted to be sure the machine would always throw a charge. He also wanted to be sure the safety cam was installed and working on every machine not using a taper crimp die. A friend of mine - Frank Appel - designed a safety cam that would work with the taper crimp die (at Elard's request), and sold some to Star. I still have a few. This was in the 70's, and CNC was still quite expensive, so only a low quantity was made. I'm not positive the design was ever really fine tuned."

Also spelled Ellard.

I noted a related family history associated with a Mary Hambaugh of Colorado where Elard was born.
It notes he was a resident of Sam Diego and earning a living as a machinist.

Bruce

Had found a listing of an Elard G. Mock of San Diego, CA, that was born 08/09/1907, and passed away 02/10/1996.

May be a different person, but not sure how many persons were named Elard. It is somewhat unique.
(Have also seen it spelled Elord)

Puts him more into the date range of the patent.

Would be interesting to know why the idea did not progress. I expect concern for loaded rounds without powder, by forgetting to turn it on? Others?

In reality, if every head had its own powder reservoir, the need for a shutoff would be almost negated.
