Star Reloaders / Label Option?
« on: January 29, 2011, 11:35:42 am »
There is/may be another option.

It is possible to cut and paste and save as a jpeg file, the picture of the label (next to the map) from this sites homepage. I have done this for a cover sheet for a booklet I put together for my Star related articles, notes, etc.  It can be highlighted and then when right clicking, you have the option to save picture as choice, to your MyPictures folder.

I am not too fluent in photo software, such as Microsift Photo Editor, but I am sure once in MyPictures, and with some effort and creativity, the jpeg can be sized, altered, changed, etc. and the result printed on an adhesive  label sheet.

Maybe if some one has photo expertise, they can chime in with the how to do it.

Star Reloaders / Re: Primer die and primer die removal tool
« on: January 26, 2011, 06:31:18 pm »
I have both. The T handle one originated with my fathers first Star in .38. and extra head in 45 circa 1965.
The flat one came into being sometime later on. I would speculate, but not with certainty that the flat was an easier to make lesser cost item.

Loading Data & Reloading Procedures / Re: How to set dies
« on: January 24, 2011, 08:30:31 pm »
Not only should the dies not contact the shell plate, there should also be clearance from the shell retaining straps. Depending on setup, the straps may actually be higher than the shell plate.

What was even more amazing that year was how fast the range crew under Joe DeCosta was able to get things back into shape, to continue on with the rest of the matches.

Star Reloaders / Re: CCI Large Pistol Primers getting sideways
« on: January 20, 2011, 09:32:28 pm »
Well, I put 100 primers in the tray, jiggle them around a bit till they're all pointed face down, invert and put about half of them in a pick up tube.  Place the tube over the resovoir, pull the pin, and gravity pulls them down.  Most of the time.  When they get lodged, thats when I break out the specs, gauntlet, mallet, skewer, and vaccum cleaner.

Sometimes they get lodged in the primer feed mechanism. That requires interuption of the cycle and the start of the fun and games associated with  shell plate removal.

I would suggest at the very least to have a full tube. I have never had this problem in the tube, but have always loaded a full tube, not partial.
I have occasionally had a primer problem in the feed mechanism, but that was usually due to dirt, or debris.

Makes you wonder how many rifle presses were actually made and sold.
For the ones that were, I wonder:   Where are they now?

Very nice work!

The Star dies even look new!

Very interesting and nice pictures.
Looks like a great project.
I particularly like the idea of a whole block insert for powder, rather than the round inserts on most other adjustable bars. The rounds ones work well, but I think the block inserts give a little bit more area in which to alter for changes, etc.

I would have dies turned to star thread, rather than the toolhead to 7/8 x 14.

Brad;

MikeA may have the answer, it seems reasonable.
Maybe you cannot tell,  but do the cuts look like they may be original or an after thought by a previous owner?

Survey Says... / 2011 Values and Prices
« on: January 04, 2011, 07:07:09 pm »
I plan on continuing same for 2011 as in the past from listings on Ebay, Auction Arms, Gunbroker, other sources, etc.
I apologize in advance in that I may miss a few.

Note that the information is subjective. It is based on my impression from listing description and photos that may be provided.
I received one critical e-mail from a seller who reads this forum, stating that I did not represent his machine accurately, and should refrain from making comments about something I did not have opportunity to see in person.
I politely replied that what is written is subjective, and is only my opinion. I also noted the comments are listed well after the auctions close, so the results are not impacted by what I may write. I also avoid lilting seller names so as not to offend anyone.

If anyone has any comments or thoughts on what I should do to make this information more useful, please let me know. I may or may not do it, but will take any suggestions and consider them.

Happy New Year!
