Star Reloaders / Primer Bushing Thread Size
« on: September 08, 2010, 02:24:44 pm »
Greetings,

Does any one know the proper thread size for the Primer Punch Bushing, Item #26?

My best guess so far is 0.400-27 UNS, based on the three that I measured.

Nothing comes close in the Machinery Handbook.

I suspect buying a tap would be a major challenge.

Cheers,

Dave Wilson

Greetings Wayne,

On the Star Parts List, the item you seek is #16, Shell Expander Plug. If you need one for 45 ACP or 38 Special, I am sure someone on the list has a spare. Should you need one for a different caliber, I can machine one for you. I need to know the bullet length and diameter.

Cheers,

Greetings,

I would suggest using the Star 1/2-27 threaded expander.

Star Reloaders / Re: MA Systems Case Feeder --- Need Help
« on: September 05, 2010, 11:22:05 am »
Greetings Wayne,

The photos helped a lot! I now know my axle is homemade (a cheap bolt). I will now machine a proper looking axle from piece of hardened steel.

The spring is a complicated piece of work. I will call MA Systems and order a correctly made one.

I suspect the screw is photo #3 is the 4-48 screw you mentioned? My housing only has one screw near the top that clamps the case tube guide.

Again, many thanks.

Cheers,

Dave

Greetings,

I recognize the indexer as made by MA Systems. I have the instruction sheet if you need one. MA Systems also have some parts left over.

There is someone on eBay that makes the primer punches and bushings. Do a search of completed items to locate this guy.

For case feeding, consider the "Free Loader". Someone on this list has cloned the original using hardware store items. Again, search the list for "freeloader" or "free loader"

Greetings Wayne,

MA refer to the part that goes through the Nylon block as the "Axle". It is 1/4" diameter with two holes for the push rods, yes?

The mystery spring is of great interest. Any chance of a digital photo to show how it is installed? Also, a photo of the spring removed from the unit, providing this is not creating a reassembly nightmare.

With kind regards,

Dave Wilson

PS. Did you get the MA Case Ejector adjusted and working properly?

Star Reloaders / MA Systems Case Feeder --- Need Help
« on: September 03, 2010, 12:14:51 pm »
Greetings,

I have an MA Systems "Easy Case Feeder" that came with a used press. I do not think the parts are original as it looks rather "Mickey Mouse" as assembled.

Does anyone have one of these that is up and running? I would like to see some detailed photos of a proper one before I call MA Systems to ask for parts. Perhaps I can machine the parts myself.

Areas of interest are the axle and the spring that pushes the Nylon case feed block.

With kind regards,

Dave Wilson

Many thanks to Bruce.

Now I have to install it and give it a test drive.

Star Lubricator & Resizers / Automatic Bullet Feeder??? What is this?
« on: July 05, 2010, 05:37:26 pm »
Greetings,

I got this in a box of parts. It looks unused and I can only guess it is a bullet feeder for the Star Greaser. Those who know what it is and who makes it, please respond. More important, an Owner Manual would be great.

Thanks, in advance,

Dave Wilson

Star Reloaders / Re: Primer Explosion

Greetings,

I have used Teflon as a replacement tip material. It is available from McMaster Carr. I believe it is 1/8" diameter. Cuts easily with a single edge razor blade.

Star Reloaders / Re: .38 Special Taper Crimp Die
« on: June 21, 2010, 12:11:42 pm »
Greetings,

The taper crimp die provides a gentle reduction of the case mouth as opposed to the roll crimp. This is good as it helps the brass to last longer, (avoids mouth cracks)

Contact me off line as I make short runs of dies in my spare time.

Star Reloaders / Powder Slide Cam
« on: June 08, 2010, 07:17:58 pm »
Greetings,

The Powder Slide Cam (#30) will come out with a little persuading. It is peened on the edges to remove any play on assembly.

I use a powder bar with bushing inserts. By removing the Powder Slide Cam Screw (#76)  and wiggling the Cam up and out, I can slide the powder bar out without removing the powder reservoir (I have one with a powder shutoff). This saves me from having to remove a lot of extra parts to change powder weights.

Cheers,

Dave Wilson
