Star Reloaders / Re: Trying to change tool heads
« on: March 22, 2011, 11:43:41 pm »
Rolling Stone,
I understand that the cam can be bent to change the throw on the arm that moves the primer slide.  Looks like a lot of trouble to me, I think I would shim it.  On the Hulme, I have some pictures of the .380 and 9mm top plate I will try and attach.  If it doesn't work I will email them to you.

Kirk,
There is only 'Pat. Pending' on the large round nut.  I picked it up on line.
I really like Dave's better and for what its worth I would send the head to
Dave to be drilled and tapped(which I have done), his work is outstanding.

Star Reloaders / Re: Part #35?
« on: February 14, 2011, 12:03:27 pm »
The part on the end can be nylon or delron(1/8" dia.) held on with heat shrink tubing.  Try
the hobby store for the rod and a electronics store for the heat shrink or McMaster-Carr for
all of it.
Hope this helps.

Ray has done a fantastic job on both the Moon Unit and case kicker.
I found the following information on the 'Brewster' if anyone is interested.

Star Reloaders / Re: Relief cut on Expander Plugs
« on: January 05, 2011, 08:38:39 pm »
As a guess I would say that the cut was to relieve pressure in the case and
prevent the primer from backing out.  Just a guess mind you as none of mine
have such.

Star Reloaders / Re: Star Press Mounting Solutions

Hello All,
I purchased one of my mounts on EBay, the seller shows two, one with one drawer and another with two.  My wife balked at me drilling into the kitchen counter so I 'C' clamp the unit instead.

You might also check the rims on the cases that are not feeding properly.
At times the rim can become damaged during extraction after firing.  Partially
blown primers can also cause problems.

John,
Try McMaster-Carr item # Part Number:  8628K57  It is nylon with a .562" ID and 5/8" OD at less than $5.00/6'.
It is a little thin and not clear but it should sufice.

Kirk,
I bought my last power tube at McMaster-Carr  8585K432 Polycarbonate Round Tube, 1-1/2" Od, 1-3/8" Id, 2' Length, Clear, at $3.86 per foot.

The feed tube for the Hulme I use is 5/8" OD X 1/2" ID and I am sure McMaster-Carr has it also.
You might consider making yourself a 'Freeloader' type device and this will save you buying extra
tubes.
I will Email you pictures of the one I made.

This is for the Hulme:
Part Number:  8565K36  $5.73 Each   Material Cellulose

Shape Tubes

Tube Type Round

Length 6'

Inside Diameter 1/2"  OD 5/8"

Star Reloaders / Re: new owner ... lots to learn
« on: May 26, 2010, 05:00:12 pm »
Kirk,
All good sources.  You might try 'star reloading' on Ebay.  There is a neat wooden work base for the Star and he also shows a powder cut off system.  A little pricey for me(powder cutoff) so I just about run empty and use the business card trick.  A powder slide with bushings or an adjustable one is nice.
You still have to load the tubes so I use a 'Freeloader' type system that I fabricated.  Don't forget to lube your cases even though you might have carbide dies.  Have a great time and remember Star presses are
like potato chips, you can't have just one.
If I can be of any assistance give me a shout.

Star Reloaders / 40 S&W/ 10mm dies and shell plate
« on: May 22, 2010, 08:12:08 pm »
I just received a new set of dies and shell plate made by Dave Wilson (fc60).  These
surpass the quality of any dies I have ever seen or currently have.  A true master
craftsman.  I look forward to purchasing additional dies (taper crimp) from him.
Thanks again Dave.
