Star Reloaders / need for powder drain ????
« on: November 17, 2010, 01:20:37 am »
NYKENN;
 Found one of ur questions on an old post. It is a good one.
 Since l have made and sold some to members of forum, will try to answer
 Started as a method of saving powder when time came to change/empty powder.
 Realy goofed up on first go around. Then the idea of  no powder being left between the powder slide bar and  bottom of powder magazine,became a question. It had to removed by what ever method available. Then the question of the slotted screws holding the housing down,becoming worn by a sloppy screwdriver being repeatedly used. The changing of powder slides can be done without removing top of housing. When only the amount of powder needs to be changed,like 2.7 grs wadcutters to 3.5 round nose .38,s. Use 10/32 allenheads instead.
 Safety factor; possibly no powder. That l leave up to the loader. with or without drain ; his/her problem.
 Convenience; It can be a drain or a cutoff, by inserting a plug in drain tube, remove when putting powder back in container.
 Simplisity in use and construction was my main objective.
 Cost is another .
 Have tried to attach pictures to this forum, but that is one point where l,m stumped

regards; maurilew  (Ma)

Hey folks;                                                                                                 Dust off is great, But be careful of the gas vapor propelant, it is toxic. Some one with respitory problems(what the heck, breathing problems), could be more susceptable than others.   ma

Star was a great place to shop/buy,and went right along with the buyers at that time, However the buyer has modified it,s attitude and manner of being trustful , so a bit of self protection is warranted.

right,the 9/16 x27 die is expensive unless you can find one someone has to sell or let you use. if it is real bad anew one would be easier. hey,where do youlive close to calif.? ifso send it over l will clean it up you pay freight, to simple to charge anything.

dd in MA. read yor question about draining power. I make a small  addition for draining powder. very simple in construction.no modifications to the machine except one replacement.remove the top of powder slide housng.do not have picture sending capacity with this MSNTV unit. not good with computors. or this thing either. can snail mail a couple photos showing what it looks like and how it,s mounted.I believe Ross Chesley is happy with his.I have purposly kept it simple as I am not a machinist,just a hobbiest who likes to make things. A Star Owner in N.Y. just puchased his eighth one( a little horn blowing)   maurilew
