« on: October 22, 2013, 05:06:05 pm »

Was wondering if anyone has reloaded 22 Hornet on a Star Press ?
Are dies, shell plates etc available out there to do this ?
What about the powder spout ? etc, etc.

Star Reloaders / Re: Primer Slide Angle Lever

I see no problem with welding a hard face weld on the angle lever and then grinding to proper dimensions, A skilled welder could do this.
You also may want to check the adjustment of the angle lever cam # 49/49U which can be bent in or out to align the primer slide so that it
doesn't bottom out with force against the coluum shaft causeing extra wear on the angle lever cam.
If You decide that a new angle lever is needed I have a new one that I could spare, If so, leave me a PM on this forum or send me an Email.

Star Reloaders / Re: Any "Gotchas" about doing 9mm in a Progressive?

Good Show, Happy to read that You were able to load 9mm on your modified machine. I did basicly the same on a universal to load 40 S&W and it worked
out very well. I had to slightly bevel the case openings on the shell plate with a Dremal Grinder to accomadate the case, Turned down and re threaded
RCBS dies and then modify the last station to kick out the finished cartridge. Now loading excellent re-loads without any Bobbels.

Welcome to the forum Jeff.
I have a small primer slide (new), Small primer punch, Spring and bushing that I can spare.
You may also need a small primer magazine and small primer pickup tube. if so I also have
one each of those that I can spare.

When useing a taper crimp die You must have a solid plug that fills the hole in the last station. You may want to go
to the "for sale" section on this forum and and inquire if anyone has one for sale. they can also be manufactured by a
machinist. and we are very fortunate to have some top notch machinist as members.

I got the Idea from a picture posted by FC60 on the forum. I tried it on one machine and it worked so well that I decided to change them all. they work well with all the cartridges that I'm set up to load, .38 spl, 357 mag, 40 S&W, .45 ACP, 44 spl and 44 mag. I have four machines and one extra head. and they work well with a taper crimp die in the last station.

I used a Dremal grinder with a cutoff wheel to carefully cut away the railing on the base and then finished up with a file to remove material down to and flush with the base floor. (see Pic's)
Then drilled a hole slightly larger than the wire about 3/4 inch into the rail for the wire, (located as seen in the pic's)
Drilled and tapped a hole into the side of the rail to secure the wire in place with a 6-32 set screw.
Shaped the wire as shown, tested, re-bent the wire slightly until Cartidge exited properly.

I have modified four machines so far and have had no issues with thier operation.

Hope this  helped
