Should you have any cam over on the lifetime dies on a star machine? I don,t want to do any harm to the dies.

                                             Thanks tguntrader

Don't know how other folks do it, but I adjust my resizeing die down to almost touching the shell plate with mabey five thousands of an Inch clearance.
I'm thinking it may save some wear on both  the Die and Shell plate, It works for Me, but Others here may have different methods.

It has to cam over . The head has to be at its lowest point if you want any consistancy and to do this you have to cam over. The dies need to come close to the shell plate but must not touch. Maybe one day I will measure and see how much clearance Star used in their set up on a NIB Star.

Not only should the dies not contact the shell plate, there should also be clearance from the shell retaining straps. Depending on setup, the straps may actually be higher than the shell plate.

The tool head reaches it's lowest point a little before the handle travels it's furthest.  The sizing die should be set with the tool head in it's lowest position, and as NYKenn says, it should not touch the shell locater strap at any time.   The shell locater straps are very hard. and if you start flexing them, they will break.
