Star Reloaders / Case feeder tubes, replacement
« on: April 01, 2011, 03:34:55 pm »
McMaster-Carr stock bunches of tubes, but not any that would seem to duplicate the Hulme tube measurements.

Granted, my plastic tubes are warped and brittle, but they measure an odd size. 33/64" ID and 21/32" OD.

What have any of you guys used to replace the Hulme tubes?

Thanks,

salty

I have a fair ammount of GI .45 ACP brass that hasn't been re-loaded yet.

Late 60s-early 70s, I did some casting chores for a gent and the payment was in the form of once fired GI brass.

After I clean the brass, do I need to run this stuff through the Rockchucker and remve the 'swage' before attempting to run it through the Star?

Thanks,

Star Reloaders / Primer die and primer die removal tool
« on: January 26, 2011, 02:44:57 pm »
On another forum, Cast bullets, mention was made of a 'primer die removal tool'.  Looking at the Illustrated Parts Breakdown of

the Star, I do not see a 'primer die'.

What is the primer die?...is it used to switch from small to large diameter primers?

Thanks,

Star Reloaders / CCI Large Pistol Primers getting sideways
« on: January 19, 2011, 11:00:50 pm »
I'm going bonkers.

My learning curve on the Star is turning out to be a long incline. The primers are getting wedged a bit in the feed tube.  What makes it worse, is they are also geting wedged in the feed mechanism that positions the primers for seating.  Either will prevent primer flow and seating.  I'm getting fairly good at removing the head, linkage, and shell plate to clean up spilled powder.

I can, and have, used a brass brush to clean/polish the inside of the primer feed tube.  I haven't the slightest idea of how to attempt to solve the occasional blockage in the feed mechanism.

Your suggestions/criticism appreciated.

Thanks,

salty

Edit.   Primers are CCI, LP, Lot #??.  There is no lot number on the end flaps.

tnx,

sd.

Star Reloaders / Shell plate removal
« on: January 07, 2011, 10:46:31 pm »
I surrender.  I am down to the shell plate but a bit leary of simply prying it up. I suspect that it may be like the side plate
removal of a revolver in that a gentle tap or two works wonders.

So what is the secret of removing the shell plate w/o warping the dang thing? Push down the ball detent, cross my eyes?

This Star has sat unused for a couple or three decades and I imagine I need to get the cobwebs out of it.

Thanks,

slty

Loading Data & Reloading Procedures / Static charge?

I'm not going to rub cat fur up against a powder container or priner stack.  Just wondering, does anyone ground their machine?

(Que 'Twilight Zone' intro  here.)
