STAR vs PHELPS
« on: November 16, 2011, 07:59:25 pm »
I've been editing eBay for Star Equipment........

I've noticed that several 'Sellers' list their parts as the following:

dcalder727
Star - Phelps 25 acp Tool head and shell plate
&
billings3
STAR or PHELPS 9mm TOOL HEAD with 7/8x14 DIES AND SHELL HOLDER PLATE

Can't really tell about the Shell-Plate, But, pretty sure it's 'PHELPS', as well as ALL THE TOOL HEADS ARE
'PHELPS'

BEWARE.. >:(

The point is list it by either Star or Phelps as they are not the same.

It is also irritating to read Star-Phelps, when most of the time it's a Phelps.  It's like false advertising. I get the point. tt

Things get listed that way on e-bay to draw more hits, pretty common tactic actually and usually there is no fraud meant.

How about we police our own forum like when Oscar was sold a shell plate that didn't fit what it was listed to fit

I can't accept the concept that someone who is interested in buying a Toolhead to fit a Star or a Phelps doesn't know the difference between the two ,and there is no argument that either brand will fit either brand, and as to quality or function does one work better than the other? I doubt it.My tool head was listed Star Phelps because it will fit either machine ,nothing was said about its origion or needed to be said. The title was composed to attract attention not to deceive. And anyone who needs a toolhead has a press so there are no ignorant buyers of toolheads there are only arrogant purist Star owners who think they should have some say on what the rest of us do.I personally was harassed by the person who began this conversation several times because he thought I should not state Star Phelps.Just who are you to edit anything?

This will be the Last I comment on this Phelps / Star issue :(

I have Stars and 1 Phelps.....I differ from your answer that Phelps Heads will
work on Star machines...THEY WON'T......Some Will & some Won't....!!! I have
tried to make them work on all my Stars (5).......Not without alterations......
So I say the person buying these Heads SHOULD KNOW THEY ARE PHELPS..!!!

The Heads & other Phelps parts SHOULD be Listed First as 'Phelps Parts &
MAY work on STAR Machines'........

If you don't like this...TOOOO BAD, I speak the Truth and so do a lot of Star
owners that agree... >:( >:(

My nickles worth,,,,
When a person buys a unit for a set price on the forum then later sells same on ebay for an 86% markup, there is a question about charactor trait.

Either one heck of a salesman, or one who would take any opportunity to shaft the unsusspecting. The decision is up to the individuals involved.

A part should be clearly and accurately listed.

I have made my decision

I,ve made mine

I thought it interesting that in the pictures of the items, all were turned so you couldn't see the label. That was enough to turn me off. I guess next there will be new labels attached since the labels have become available.

Maurilew,I don't understand the relevance to this topic of a 86% markup.Where does that come from? And on the tool head I have there are no labels period,so  you somehow are justified in calling it a cover up.Astounding.I'm beginning to wonder about character traits also.I once bought a powder drain off this sight which I thoroughly disliked, not a question of its quality which was superb, so I put it on ebay and was stunned to double my cost.Is it morally wrong somehow? And what gives you the right to judge anyway?
