Star Reloaders / Re: Protective shroud around primer tube?
« on: April 20, 2015, 01:04:09 am »
This is from Handloader Oct.1992. Elard Mock recommended after testing, a protective mild steel seamless tube that slips down over the brass primer magazine tube as
far as the knurled ferrule. It's dimensions are 7/16-inch O.D. x .049-inch wall x11-3/4 inches in length. Also a,stainless steel protective collar encloses the primer magazine socket with dimensions of 1/2-inch O.D. x.028-inch wall x1-1/16 inches in length. the collar cannot extend higher, otherwise it would interfere with the tool head at its lowest operating position. Also, the collar may not clear the knurled ferrule in some cases of tolerance built-up. If so file down the knurled ferrule to fit.
Hope this is of benefit to you.

Star owners are fortunate to have Bruce as the owner of Star. Parts are comparable if not better than original.

I've loaded over 200,000 rounds on my Star since 1986. I have the Hulme case feeder,MA Systems case collator, MA Systems shell plate rotator, MA Systems bullet feeder, MA Systems Ejector and MA Systems Roller ease handle.I have had zero problems with any of these attachments or with any wear on my Star mainly because I do not size or decap on it. The only replacement on the machine was a primer slide spring. Star Machine Works recommended MA Systems products to me when I purchased it and it is fun running a fully progressive Star. It still looks like the day I received it.

MA Systems made the only real bullet feeder and bullet collator for the Star. I currently use it and it is amazing. Have loaded over 200,000 rounds with it and it runs flawlessly. I hope it never fails as they currently no longer make systems for the Star. I'll load a video of it soon.

Bruce makes parts as good if not better than original Star parts.

Loading 500,000 rounds on a manual machine is quite an accomplishment.

I deprime and under size the cases on a 550 with a case feeder. The 550 gets pretty grimy after awhile and I very seldom have to clean the Star. I'll load 1000 rounds on the Star and just have to remove any residual powder with compressed air and the machine is clean. They don't make Stars anymore and whoever gets mine it will last their lifetime.

I purchased the MA System indexer when I bought my machine from Star in 1986 and have loaded 200,000 rnds. on it. The base is still relatively good  probably because I've never deprimed on it and the indexer doesn't seemed to have induced any wear. I just got another MA system indexer from E-Bay, why I don't know as they never wear out.

How about removing some material from the inside of the flipper.
