Star Reloaders / Re: 9 m/m lifetime

Greetings,

Sounds like yours is the same as mine. Lifetyme chrome plated the die bodies on some.

The one I have has a large piece of Carbide the actually sticks out of the die about 1/10".

Cheers,

Dave

Stars Want to Sell/Want to Buy / Re: die and expander nuts, # 17 & 19
« on: November 17, 2011, 04:34:30 pm »
Greetings All,

I just finished a batch of nuts. Send me a message off list, pick on the envelope at the left, for pricing.

I have #17, #19, #69, and #69U.

The #78 is the same thread pitch as the #69U. I have been using them interchangeably. Someone correct me if there is a difference. Both measure 9/16" across the flats with a 3/8-24 thread.

Cheers,

Dave

Greetings,

I think you will find resizing the bullets smaller will not improve accuracy.

Greetings,

According to my M-A Systems Instruction sheet, they are #5-40 Socket Head Cap Screws.

They do point out that you only tighten the screw on the left. Do not tighten the right side screw as it will damage the threads of the Primer Push Rod.

Cheers,

Dave

Star Reloaders / Re: Advice on .380 and 38 press

Greetings,

You will need a complete set of dies for 38 Special and 380 Auto. They are not interchangeable.

You cannot have too many Star machines. However, spare tool heads and shell plates are probably the best choice.

38 Special dies are common and probably someone on this Forum has a set to sell.

The 380 dies and shell plate may be a little more difficult to locate. I can machine a set of replica dies if you are unable to locate originals. Contact me via personal email for specifics.

Rich Daniels can supply you with a shell plate, I think.

There is a complete machine on AuctionArms in 380. He is asking $800.00, plus shipping.

Greetings,

I checked the internal carbide ring and it was the same diameter of one I borrowed from a friend.

Greetings,

I can machine a replica seater die and expander.

You will need, most likely, a 5/8" powder bar and housing, depending on the powder charge. Bruce, rbwillnj, may be a source for this item.

Dave

Greetings All,

My thanks to Lance for such prompt service.

I actually purchased more than one die. When they arrived, I noticed one had the Lifetyme LOGO roll marked upside-down! What a treat. Even the Pros make a mistake now and then.

I wonder if it is now a collectors item. Sort of like the upside-down Zeppelin stamps issued by the post office years ago.

FLASHBACK, I was at the post office in the 1970"s and an old granny was trying to post a letter with one of the aforementioned stamps. The clerk told her that the stamp was rare and she should take it to a dealer. Being not from America, she told him if the postage was not enough she had more of them! Finally, she made it to the stamp shop and increased her retirement.

Cheers,

Dave

My guess is that it is an end point for when they either broached or shaped the key slot to providing an exit for the cutting tool.

Star Reloaders / Re: Powder Hopper Thread Size
« on: October 03, 2011, 01:34:29 pm »
Greetings,

The 1/4 NPT tap I bought "drops into" the hole easily. I need to cut off about 3/4" and resharpen it. The taper is the same either way.

Currently, it is not a priority project. Too busy machining dies for the forum members.

When I had a "real job" I had the shop supervisor order a set of gauges to machine the tapered threads. Much better than the "looks good enough" process used prior.

Cheers,

Dave

Greetings,

I got my 1/4-27 Pipe Tap in the mail. It does not fit the housing properly. The tap is marked NPT and I suspect I need the F-PTF series.

When time allows, I will try to cut off the one I have and have the cutting leades reground and make my own custom Star Tap.

Cheers,

Dave

Greetings,

What is the outside diameter of the shell plate?

I checked two of my 45 ACP Plates and they measure 3.673" OD and 0.406" (about) opening.

I have never seen 45 ACP plates marked as such.

Cheers,

Dave
