A Do-It-Yourself Handgun Rest
Special Note: The inspiration for this rest came from LtCol David McCormick of the USAF National Pistol Team.
Description and Notes:
I won't go into a full blown detailed construction procedure since I consider this a fairly simple project, but I will provide notes:
- You will need to provide a shock absorbing covering for the contact points. This will give better results and can provide for varying elevation adjustment.
- As other ways to adjust for elevation differences, you can shim the front or back, or use varying lengths for the vertical "V" section.
- For greater stability you can add a short piece of tubing and a 1/2" coupler to each of the bottom "Tee's" outlets.
- To adjust the rest for the size of your handgun, vary the lengths of the horizontal tube and the top vertical tube (H and V in the image).
- The vertical pieces of tubing to connect the bottom Tees only need to be about 1.5" long.
- I did not use any glue for this rest. The parts fit together tight enough to hold on their own.
Tools and Materials List:
- cutter of your choice for the 1/2" PVC tubing
- measuring device of your choice
Parts List:
Note: I selected "SCH 40" PVC parts from a local hardware store, so all these should be readily available.
- 1, SCH 40 3/4" x 3/4" elbow with 1/2" 90 degree theaded side outlet
- 1, SCH 40 1/2" elbow with one end threaded to mate with the above part and the other end a standard connection
- 1, SCH 40 1/2" standard elbow
- 3, SCH 40 1/2" Tees
- 1, SCH 40 1/2" x 5' length of tubing (this was the shortest I found - you really only need about one foot).
